super mario
i just stumbled upon this great freundevonfreunden interview with mario lombardo. what nice images of summer in berlin. though i did enjoy winter time, i am looking forward to the next summer in this city … and i just want to move in to that studio.
i first fell in love with mario lombardo's graphic and editorial work a couple of years back when i was still a student and his studio still in cologne. we actually interviewed him for a seminar and i remember being impressed how calm, polite and quiet he was for someone just becoming the next star in graphic design. how suitable that he gave his book he published with gestalten the title 'the tender spot'. i am still specifically fond of his work for liebling magazine and i still go through them for editorial and layout inspiration.
ps. they just moved into a new space.

lately ...
... it's been quite quiet around here. i've been busy working, we moved into our new office, and crafting for my own benefit for once, finishing our invitations. hurray!
we did have a glimpse of summer these past weeks, but fall is back, which made me want to bake and be lazy on the weekends. i took the chance to finally try out this rhubarb cake recipe which i found on one of my favorite blogs (it's in german though) and it turned out amazing ... i just love rhubarb. anyway, i'll be back soon.

NYC here I come!
i am so excited! Only four more days to go before i leave for NEW YORK! in my mind, i'm already packing my bags and picturing myself in the big city. i can't wait. the main excuse to go was/is iGDN, the founding conference of the international Gender Design Network, which will take place at Parsons and is hosted by my former professor Dr. Uta Brandes. and she asked me and two of my friends (also co-workers) to give a talk! it's only a short input session, but i am still ... nervous.
and then there's catching up with an old friend, getting to know jenni's new york, going to the moma, ps 1, coney island to re-experience childhood memories and just taking it all in!
do you have any special recommendations for me?

coffee and books
Meeting my friend Ines for a coffee at Barcomi's I finally had time to visit the Gestalten Space. Next to selling their books and lovely things, they always have a small exhibition. Currently it's Here or there by Oliver Jeffers. I especially loved the chalk quotes on the black wall and the Mao pieces.
And being a designer (or a girl) I got very obsessed about their books. These are my top three (which I didn't buy, but I am still thinking about them).
Forever. The new Tattoo
I've been thinking about getting a tattoo for a long time, but I still haven't found that one thing I want to have on my body for the rest of my life. Or maybe I have. I dunno. Anyway, I found this book and I'm in love with it and I want to have it.
Delicate.
To me Food and Eating Design is the ultimate Interaction Design. It's culture, rituals, communication and the very basic act of sharing food. I love how different meals are 'orchastrated' and the act of having a meal, which we do ever so often without even thinking about it, becomes a new experience. And secondly, I enjoy how the tables, rooms and plates are set up.
Echoes of the Future
Amazing, simple, beautiful, stunning graphic design and branding. Simply inspiring. I want it.
